ISPC
The Industry Safety Policy Committee (ISPC) is a sub-committee to the Direct Employers Committee, whose mandate is to review and address industry wide safety matters. The ISPC oversees the development and implementation of the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program and facilitates the recommendations of the TAC committee. The ISPC assists the BCMEA in setting safety goals and objectives for the industry and provides oversight for the safety budget.

TAC
The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) assists the waterfront community in an advisory capacity by reviewing, considering and making recommendations to the Industry Safety Policy Committee (ISPC) on the development and implementation of the Certificate of Recognition Program (COR). The role of the TAC is one of making recommendations and informing ISPC on issues so that they can take appropriate action.

The responsibility for decisions on COR development and implementation resides with the ISPC.
Specific duties of the committee include:

  • Providing advice for strategic and operational implementation, and assisting with developing implementation strategies in key areas
  • Providing support for COR planning including:
    • registration requirements
    • the development and implementation of the auditing tool
    • the development and ongoing support of training relating to the COR program
    • the development and implementation of an industry wide Injury Management and Return to Work Strategy
  • Recommending objectives and direction for the COR program
  • Ensuring activities of the committee are open and transparent
